Why It Matters

Youth are falling through the cracks, and families need support now

Isolation, fractured families, and limited access to mentorship are leaving young people without the guidance they need to flourish. The distance between where youth are today and where they could be with intentional investment is the defining challenge we're called to address. Here is what we're doing to build a stronger N.E.T. across our state.

The challenge

Youth need mentoring, equipping, and spiritual grounding

Young people today face unprecedented pressures-social isolation, fractured family structures, unclear purpose, and limited access to positive adult role models. Without intentional investment in their development, entire generations risk falling through the gaps.

Across our state, youth are growing up in environments where competing demands on families leave little time for relational investment. Schools and traditional institutions are stretched thin, and many young people lack consistent, caring mentors who believe in their potential and point them toward Christ-centered purpose.

Parents, schools, and churches are asking for help-but the need for youth development programs far exceeds available resources. Too many adolescents navigate their most formative years without steady guidance, without experiencing genuine Christian community, and without discovering how their gifts can strengthen their families, churches, workplaces, and communities.

The result is a generation unprepared for leadership and disconnected from the spiritual foundation that transforms lives. That gap is real, it shapes destinies, and closing it is the defining work of our time. This is why SOS exists-to ensure No One Falls Through the N.E.T.

Six figures that define the need

Youth development requires intentional investment

These figures come from federal data sources, peer-reviewed research, and community conversations with partners across our state.

1 in 4 Youth in crisis Young people lack consistent mentorship, spiritual grounding, or positive role models in their lives.
60% Spiritual disconnect Of teens report feeling isolated from faith communities and meaningful spiritual formation opportunities.
42% Family strain Of young adults struggle to maintain healthy relationships with family due to unresolved conflict or lack of tools.
55% Workplace readiness gap Of employers report that entry-level candidates lack leadership skills and character formation for sustainable work.
73% Community apathy Of young adults feel disconnected from their communities and don't see pathways to meaningful contribution.
89% Network belief Of respondents agree that coordinated, faith-centered youth development strengthens entire communities.
Why It Matters

What happens when youth lack support and direction

The absence of Christ-centered mentorship and guidance is not an abstraction. It is a measurable impact on individuals, families, and communities. When investment in youth leadership is delayed, the cost is paid by the young people with the fewest alternatives and the generations that follow.

  • 01

Young people fall through the N.E.T.

When youth development programs are under-resourced, the young people they serve are the first to feel it. Mentorship shrinks, waitlists grow, and the families with the fewest alternatives are the ones who go without transformative leadership.

  • 02

    Proven approaches never reach scale

When effective youth formation cannot reach all communities that need it, isolated successes never become statewide transformation. One young leader's breakthrough in one neighborhood remains exactly that, while the same potential goes untapped elsewhere.

  • 03

Decisions are made without real-world insight

When youth voices and frontline experience do not reach the people setting policy and allocating resources, communities pay the cost of avoidable setbacks. The wisdom of young leaders is left out of decisions that shape the next decade.

  • 04

Trust in faith and community weakens

When young people lack connection to Christ-centered community and institutional support, engagement erodes everywhere else. Outreach reaches fewer youth, partnerships with families and churches fray faster, and the spiritual foundation communities depend on continues to weaken.
